Nisf Jubeil Ceramics
The Ceramic Laboratory in the small Palestinian village of Nisf Jubeil is part of the Mosaic Centre Jericho network. It is located in a beautifully restored traditional building (complete with guest house), just at the edge of the village in a green and hilly countryside. The laboratory aims at reviving the traditional pottery and ceramic handicraft in Palestine through training and education.
In this section we invite you explore the details of Palestinian ceramics and watch a video to see how the artisans of Nisf Jubeil create their beautiful handcrafted work.
Karakashian Ceramics
Megerditch Karakashian, arrived in Jerusalem in the Autumn of 1919 from Kutaya, Turkey, as part of a team of ceramic artisans, to renovate the ceramic tiles of the Dome of the Rock
The ceramic artists were commissioned and brought to Jerusalem by the Pro-Jerusalem Society to refurbish the ceramic tile on the dome of al-Aqsa Mosque and to produce street name tiles, inscribed in three languages: English, Arabic, and Hebrew. Today, the Karakashian and Balian families continue to produce ceramics in the true tradition of the original masters.
